The city allowed his house to be built on a human waste lagoon. Now it's unlivable and the city is looking the other way. We made a little documentary of it, including getting escorted out of a City Hall meeting last night. He's trying to get a law firm to take his case so the city will buy him out and he can move on. According to my wife, who has worked at large law firms for the past 34 years, they need to get an attorney. The city will not do a thing unless it is forced to through the legal system. And even then there is no guarantees that your friend will get anything out of it. Unfortunately that means more expense for your friends.

Unfortunately the legal system is not free. That is why one of my favorite quotes is "Money trumps law." You see it all of the time with rich celebrities and politicians.

The city had to buy back 4 houses across the street from him about ten years ago for the same reason. They levelled em and not it's a hollow hilly marsh waiting to suck some poor kid up under that hollow street. Kind of sickening they are waiting until someone dies to respond to it... at which time they'll pretend to be surprised.
