Full Version: Recommendation For Codec

I seem to have lost necessary codecs for opening my avi files.
In starting my encore 2.0 project I'm trying to import an avi file made in ProShow Producer. The file won't open indicating that I may be missing the appropriate codec.
I've done this many times before without problems but now something must be amiss. I tried to open the same avi file in Windows Explorer and it has repeatedly caused WinExp to freeze up.
Am I correct to assume that it is a codec problem? Assuming it is, would someone please recommend where I may download a new codec package?
I just downloaded K-Lite pkg but it didn't seem to resolve my problem.
Suggestions?
Thanks.
Ann
Dont install codec packs they can make a mess of your system.
Run the file through GSpot and place a screendump here on the forum.

Perhaps you are correct about codec packs. I spent the better part of my day yesterday trying to resolve my problem, without success. I have narrowed it down to a problem with the ProShow Producer program, the rendered avi produced became so toxic that every time my cursor came close to it in Windows Explorer, WE would freeze up requiring Task Manager to end its suffering.
The forums say I need codecs to read particular files. Finding the right one for the specific task is the issue. I hate the codec packs as they try to load up a hundredfold stuff that you don't need or want. What's the alternative?
For some reason I'm not getting email notification of my postings here. I'll be working more in PSP today trying different methods to get a viable avi file out of it, and check back here later. Thanks loads.
