It isn't an encore limitation. Your DVD may have a maximum write speed of 6x.

My disk had a write speed of 8x and I know some one who has the same problem with a write speed of 16x

From what I've read, most "authorities" recommend burning a DVD at 4x or less anyway, so perhaps Adobe is just helping out. If you want to burn faster anyway, try ImgBurn but you're probably risking errors on the burnt disk if you do.

I also keep the write speed as low as possible.

Why don't you try one at 4x using ImgBurn, assuming you have high quality media that will handle the speed. It's at least twice as fast (surprise) . Think of all the extra things you can do, etc.

Greetings,
FWIW, over the years I have burned dvds at the highest speed of my writer (for the last couple years 20X) using Taiyo Yuden -R white hub injet 16X. I have had so few not play for users that I can only assume it is not the speed burned but probably player compatibility issues. Dennis
Virtually all the disks were burned using Encore, BTW.

.having just a "few" for us is too many..true that high quality media (taiyo yuden) +high quality burner means good chance that it will work but we have 99% compatibility so far and we ship all over the world not just usa and the reason its 99% is 1 person had a boombox with a so called dvd player on it and our disc didnt work. of course the old rule is if it aint broke dont fix it so we will continue to do what we are doing until our stuff or me dies i guess. whichever goes first.
