You've got it wrong. Royalty free means you aren't charged every time you use the music but the companies and people that create the music still need to pay their rent/mortgage so they charge a one-time fee to buy the music.

Some sites have a little free music now and then. Others charge less than $20 per song. Some much less.
The Creative Commons site is a source of music that people want to share.

The point is, whether you get it free, or buy it, you want some sort of receipt, and to understand the agreement. What you want is to be able to use it in a compilation without violating copyright. That is the purpose of Royalty Free Music.

Oh -BTW - if you are a Premier user, Quicktracks for Premiere is good. It allows you to edit music to your video ( instead of editing video to your music). Smartsound supplies it, and you buy music from them. They OFTEN have sales where their discs go as low as $49. When you buy a CD, though, you get about 12 songs. Then you can make them ANY length by using the quicktracks plugin.

and on the subject of SmartSound I have to say Sonicfire Pro 4.5 is absolutely awesome. It's definately worth the initial outlay and it saves soooo much time when it comes to scoring your movies. The quality of the music is top notch too.

there is also podsafe music you can get free music and download but you would have to edit it to fit your score.

Hi!
Some time ago I found this:
http://www.jamendo.com/en/acoustic, age, alternative, ambient, blues, chanson, jazz, .....
They are using
Creative Commons - so you can copy, distribute, advertise and play this album as long as you:
- Give credit to the artist
- Don't use this album for commercial purposes
- Don't alter, transform or build upon this album
Some artists allow commercial use.
Hope that helps!
Ciao
