i was thinking about it, but i have a few projects on the go and im not sure if you can directly open up the old ncor files with the new CS3 Encore.

i am still working with Encore 1.0

Finish your 1.0 projects in 1.0.

Once they are finished, go ahead and upgrade. There are significant improvements in CS3 that will make your authoring life richer and easier.

Be aware that there is no stand-alone version of Encore CS3 - it's bundled with Premiere Pro only.

ok first off to answer my own question, yes encore 1.0 files can be opened in encore CS3.

i know JeffB said to finish off my projects but i just wanted to see if CS3 would open and i could finish of my projects.

i was making a dvd for a mate of his holiday snaps, (i put it in premiere pro and made a movie with a soundtrack for each country he visited - it was a contiki trip thru europe).

any way there were a few gliches in encore 1.0 with the project and i had hoped (with fingers and toes crossed) that i could just open it up in CS3 and the gliches would disappear - cos i was certain i had authored it correctly, and yes the gliches were sorted out.

one of the gliches i had in encore 1.0 when making the project, there was an error in playback when previewing the project, (a button wasnt going to the right link on a menu screen) anyway, so i clicked on the button and used the pick n whip (i think its still called that) and linked it to the menu, then in the properties part selected the link on the menu that i wanted to be highlighted. But the button changed name to 'picture menu' from 'back' but the easy fix was just to rename it in the properties box - so easy, i thought i was gonna have to make a new button and edit them in photoshop etc.

anyway point im making is it will open ur old files and u can continue to finish them off.

now i cant wait to see what other new features are in CS3. smile.gif

Dan,

I upgraded about a month ago and I'm sort of bummed out about Encore CS3 as opposed to 2.0.
Actually, I'm making a list of what I perceive as "problems" and I wondered if you agreed.
1. Even if you use Encore to encode the assets, if you want to re-do the project ie to a folder, Encore re-encodes the project which takes a long time if you're trying BluRAy.
2. I can't get the sequence markers to show up in Encore as Chapter Points when I export out of Premiere as "Make Movie".
3. For some reason if I want to have a menu run a certain period of time and then have an end action to go to another menu, it won't do it ie, it just stops (this only happens in the burned disc not the "Preview".
4. Encore CS3 just closes down without any warnings which never happened when I was using 2.0. I'm using a quad core computer with 4 gigs of Ram.
5. The BluRay is shakey, but there apparently are a few ways around that.

More new bugs perhaps to add to the older ones that were never sorted out in previous versions!.....I never upgraded to CS3, I have even gone back to using Encore 1.5.1 on my system with windows Vista Premium..

Dave,
It seems to me that CS3 has problems that weren't present in Encore 2.0. The stuff I mentioned above worked ok in 2.0.

Did you try naming your chapter markers before exporting out of Premiere? The Chapter markers won't travel unless they are named. It can be something simple, like "One", "Two,"... etc.

JohnR
Thanks for the idea, but I've always done that (type in a name or something in the Chapter space of the sequence marker) in my previous incarnation of PP which did carry over to Encore when I used File-Export-Movie.
"Sequence markers" in CS3 are supposed to show up in Encore as chapter points, but for some reason they don't on my set-up. There are some special "Encore Markers" I could use , but when I tried File - Export - Movie (which I want to do because I have Cineform and Cineform automatically downconverts HDV size to SD size when I do that) these markers don't carry over either. According to the manual, I would have to use File-Export- Export to Encore to make these carry over.

Have you successfully used the sequence markers for chapter points? If so were you using SD footage or HDV. I suppose exporting with the Cineform .avi's might be the problem for me.

hey John,

sorry i didnt reply to your mesage before, that last couple of days have gotten away from me.

Anyway to reply to your 5 points that u made.

Points 1 and 5 - i dont have a bluray burner .... yet. And also on point 1, i only use encore to burn to disc not to a folder.

Point 2 - my movies or projects so far the movies havnt been long enough to justify chapter points.

Point 3 - with my purchase i opted for the 20 day trial of lynda.com training - im going thru the training and havnt come accriss anything that may resolve this problem of yours but if i do i will let you know. And in general i think the lynda.com traing is pretty good so far.

Point 4 - i havnt had that happen to me .... yet ?? (fingers crossed) lol

I suspect that as well, because exporting an AVI from PPro CS3 with properly-named chapter markers results in those chapter markers appearing in Encore CS3.
