This clip (1:32 min, 2.85mb, wmv format) is actually the "sneak preview" part of a DVD I made for my family in Germany. It was the announcement of our second daughter.
We had a 3d ultrasound done for our first daughter, so we figured if our second daughter doesn't get one, she (or we, rather) would never hear the end of it.
At that 3d ultrasound place we recorded about 30 minutes of 2d and 3d ultrasound footage, which we were given on a DVD. I extracted only a few select seconds to work with. My goal was to sort of make it like a teaser trailer that would run before the "feature presentation" of my home video. I ended up making it the last item on the DVD, though (seemed to fit better).
While the video starts off rather slow, it was done on purpose to build some suspense (Introducing a new grand child kind of is a big deal, and I was looking for maximum impact).
The whole idea came to me while listening to the Shrek soundtrack. I got the CD for a few songs on it. When I heard that piece, I pretty much knew what I wanted the video to look like.
Cutting was done in Premiere. The 3d ultrasound footage is sped up -- some of it even 10 fold, other sections only 6 fold to make it look more ... interesting, really. Normally it's much slower due to the time it takes to process the two 2d ultrasounds into 3d. Oh, and the "waving" at the end of it..that's kind of fake as you've probably guessed. There was a piece of footage where she moved her hand a bit, and I just keep playing it forwards and backwards a few times.
WrigleyVideo.com is what got me started, by the way. I was looking online for information on video editing and came across this site. After checking out (all of) the awesome tutorials I purchased Premiere. First thing I made was a Star Wars opening title closely following the tutorial on this site. Then I did the ultrasound clip.
