A breif story about them all. The Korn video I made as a tribute to the Friday the 13th series. As corny as the movies are, they are classic, and Jason is badass  The video i designed to tell the story of Jason Vorhees along with the music and some of the lyrics (obviously). I wanted to enter it into Korns fan music video contest, but i didnt have the rights to for obvious reason as i didn`t make the Friday the 13th movies. The file is now 10 megs

The French fry commercial I only edited, i did not film it. It was for a guy on public access that i`m helping out....he sometimes pays me....well twice and i`ve done 2 and a half episodes for him. Its just standard sillyness with subtitles. The girl speaks all french and I had no idea what she was saying, and was given freedom to make up her dialog. Its about 16 megs. ( i seem to not be able to compress down digital video really small, but its still smaller than my analog ones) And if anyone knows french i`d LOVE to know what she`s saying

The Alice in Chains one I did for fun. Sadly it came out very dark in the end. Again i storied the video to the games story and the lyrics, and all the footage was me playing. However it came out dark after compressing it a few times....and i`ve since deleted the files that i created it with.I still have a divx copy, but i can`t have divx and premeire installed at the same time, so i can`t try to fix it. Its about 13 megs.

If you download the files please download the entire file as I have limited bandwidth. Enjoy and leave feedback/comments if you feel neccessary.

and thanks to greg for pointing me to sitesled

I enjoyed the French Fry video. But let's discuss your export problems.

The first problem is using MOEG1. It is old, out of date, and while it can be played across all platforms, is not even close to the quality available if you used WM9 from Microsoft.

The second problem is that you exported at 720X480. All of my stufff is put on the web at 320X240 and I find it plenty big enough for people to enjoy. Thousands of people have downloaded my videos, and nobody ever said they were too small. Curt uses that size for his demos as well.

One last thing is the quality of the audio. Pretty high for web based stuff. Of your 15.69MB file, 1.75MB was audio.

Just a thought for next time. Even if you just reduced the size, you would cut the file size by almost 3/4.

perfectionism does these things to me i know....i`m working on trying to shrink them without them looking and sounding like poop. And won`t digital video get squashed if i export at 320x240? And i`m using an old machine, not sure about WM9? How do i use it as a codec? And does it run on 98? I`m tired of running into everything only working on XP....so i just do with what i have....have all my life.

i`m also compressing things with tmpegenc.....is there something else i could use?

I believe you can export an AVI and use the standalone Windows Media Encoder to encode to WM7. Or maybe WM8 - someone else might remember.

ok i`m looking into it now....i have Series 9 installed, but i need to download series 8 encoder....see if this blows my computer up

*Edit* Ok i got it working, thanks a bunch....its now down to 10 megs...though the sound is a bit....tinny....the file size is more user friendly.

.very cool..make them as big as you want..who cares..i am on cable...next time you use people like in the fries one i know its hard not to laugh but let them know to not laugh and also dont look at the camera unless you are addressing the camera like at the beginning but she looks up at the camera after closing the spa..those are just little picky things no biggie.it was funny.i also use mpeg1 and i dont care if someone says its old and out of date cause so am i.i am also not one to conform to what everyone else says and does..i am different..but i make mine 352x240.but then i adjust audio and video bitrates depending on what file size i want.

Some things that are old are out of date. Other things just keep chugging along.

PCs get old. Cars become classics. We are not sure which category John falls into wink.gif

MPEG is something that still works, but there is no good reason to use it unless you have really old PCs, or Macs that you want to run something on. Or if you really don't care about other people seeing it because it is too big to download. If MPEG were a car, it would be a gas guzzler with rust all over the body, no brakes, and no lights. The engine still runs, but what's the point? Don't you deserve something better?

If an argument is going on I'm not in in.

Well, about JOhn's mpeg1 vidoes, I have seen they are much better than .wmv and other extensions although the size is a little more. He tweaks the bitrates correctly and results are wonderful. It may sound silly but I've seen his videos , they are great.

Keep it up John. Well, for me I use .wmv encoding coze I'm not an expert in setting or adjusting bitrates.

.never an arguement..steven knows way more and totally helps alot of people...just stating how i feel. and i am not a classic i am a food guzzler with some rust and many creaks and squeaks..my engine still runs but whats the point.

Not an argument. Just a little teasing. John and I have been on these forums together a long time. His page was one of the first I linked to. I am more a technician than an artist. So I go for the technical solution.

John has taught more than his fair share of beginners how to get started. And he has my respect, regardless of his encoding choices.
